The Miami Heat are trying desperately to revamp the supporting cast of LeBron James in order to convince him to stay in South Beach. While the star options of adding to the roster seem to have vanished, there are still several veterans who can help James get back to the NBA Finals and put up a pretty competitive fight for his next NBA championship battle. One of those options looks to be Charlotte Hornets' free agent forward Josh McRoberts.

CBSSports.com's Ken Berger has confirmed reports that the Heat and McRoberts have verbally agreed on a contract for the full mid-level exception. That would be roughly four years and $23 million with an opt-out after season three. Marc Stein of ESPN.com originally reported the signing.

The Miami Heat issued a statement regarding the signing that they have engaged in negotations and expect McRoberts to sign following the free agency moratorium:

Miami HEAT President of Basketball Operations Pat Riley announced today that the team has been engaged in negotiations with free agent forward Josh McRoberts and intends to sign him to a contract at the conclusion of the NBA Moratorium Period.

McRoberts was an integral part to Charlotte's success last season, helping them make the playoffs as the 7-seed in the East. He started 78 games for Charlotte and his versatile game was a big plus for them. He averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 30.3 minutes. He also legitimately stretched the floor for the first time in his career, attempting 291 3-pointers and connecting on 36.1 percent of them. Prior to last season, McRoberts had only attempted 185 3-pointers in 272 games.

The Heat have a big need for his versatility off the bench or even in a starting role next to Chris Bosh, assuming they can convince James to re-sign.
