Update: The Kings and Suns agreed to a sign-and-trade involving Isaiah Thomas on Friday, according to Yahoo Sports:

Restricted free agent point guard Isaiah Thomas is visiting the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, as first reported by Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

This ... is more than a little odd. Thomas averaged 20 points and six assists for the Sacramento Kings last season. He had a PER of 20.5 and a true shooting percentage of 57.4 percent. These numbers are about the same or better than Kyrie Irving, who just got a max contract extension.

It's not that Thomas should be in line for the max, but there's just no way he should be seen as a third guard. If he stood taller than 5-foot-9, he absolutely wouldn't be.

Perhaps the Suns want insurance in case restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe gets a maximum offer that they'd rather not match. Perhaps they just see an undervalued asset and will worry about fit later. Either way, it's a shame that the market is dictating that Thomas consider joining a team that sees him as a bench player. It's been a bumpy ride for him since Sacramento selected him No. 60 overall in 2011, but Thomas has proven he's a starter in this league.

Aside: what must point guard Tyler Ennis, Phoenix's first-round pick, be thinking right now?
