The Chicago Tribune reports that the Bulls have reached an agreement with point guard Kirk Hinrich for what is believed to be the Room Exception, starting around $2 million per year for as many as two years.

The Chicago Bulls have agreed to terms with guard Kirk Hinrich, according to league sources.

Hinrich, who has spent nine of his 11 NBA seasons with the Bulls, averaged 9.1 points and 3.9 assists in 73 games last season. He is a favorite of management and coach Tom Thibodeau. The Bulls view him as an ideal complement for Derrick Rose because he can take defensive and ball-handling responsibilites off Rose's plate.

Terms of the deal are still being negotiated around the Bulls' planned amnesty of Carlos Boozer.

Hinrich has played most of his career in Chicago, and will likely retire there. He provides the Bulls a floor-manager point guard who can still defend capably. Unfortunately, his playmaking skills have eroded and his shot abandoned him about four years ago. He's arguably a minus offensively, which is one reason D.J. Augustin was given the chance he was last season. But with the Bulls (once again) gambling that Rose will be healthy, Hinrichs a capable reserve. And if Rose isn't available (again), the season will have already become a waste anyway. Low cost singing for Chicago.
