Lance Stephenson taking deal with Hornets, leaving Pacers

Free agent guard Lance Stephenson is leaving the Indiana Pacers for the Charlotte Hornets, agreeing to a three-year deal, the Charlotte Observer confirms.

The Observer reports Stephenson will earn $9 million in 2014-15 and 2015-16, and slightly more in 2016-17 if the Hornets pick up his option. Earlier, ESPN reported Stephenson agreed to a three-year, $27M deal.

Stephenson scored a career-high 13.5 ppg or Indiana last season, also registering high-water marks in rebounds (7.2 rpg) and assists (4.7 apg) while shooting 49 percent.

The mercurial guard reportedly turned down more money to stay with the Pacers, who were said to have offered Stephenson a five-year, $44M deal.
