The Los Angeles Lakers are in a transition period in which they need to add talent to compete now while remaining flexible with their future cap considerations in 2015 and 2016. They've thrown money at retaining Jordan Hill and Nick Young this offseason, but mostly everything has been geared toward have flexible options for big transactions to help Kobe Bryant remain competitive in the coming years.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Lakers will continue adding flexible talent with the acquisition of power forward Ed Davis. The former Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors big man will accept $2 million on a two-year deal that contains a player option for the 2015-16 season.

Davis was a promising young big man for the Raptors, spending 2.5 seasons with the club after being selected by them with the 13th pick in 2010. He was traded during the 2012-13 season when the Grizzlies sent Rudy Gay to the Raptors. Davis was one of the main components of the package coming back to Memphis in the deal. His minutes were cut under Lionel Hollins and he wasn't given much consistent playing time under Dave Joerger either.

In Toronto, Davis averaged 7.7 points and 6.8 rebounds in 24.0 minutes. In Memphis, those numbers dropped to 5.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 15.2 minutes. This could be a steal for both parties involved with Davis getting a chance to earn big minutes and put up numbers on a Lakers team that could desperately use some competent big men to put next to Julius Randle.
