Some initial names for USA Basketball's Select Team have come out, via Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
Typically, young players who might have a future with the national program are invited to play for the select team, but they're not always future stars. Back in 2012, the list of participants included from Kyrie Irving, DeMarcus Cousins, Jeremy Lin and DeJuan Blair.
The team will practice in Las Vegas and compete against the national team during its training camp. It's generally a valuable experience for up-and-coming players, who get the chance to observe how superstars work.
Rookies Doug McDermott and Marcus Smart already have something similar on their resumes. They took part in USA Basketball's minicamp in Vegas last summer while they were still in college, alongside established players like Irving, Paul George, Damian Lillard and Anthony Davis.
