Months after signing on to chair a search committee for the NBPA's new executive director, Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson is stepping away from it, via Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski:

Wow. Well, that did not go well. Johnson was supposed to help move along a process that had already been drawn out for way too long. Billy Hunter was ousted as executive director all the way back in February 2013, and the union had hired a search firm to help find a replacement. His decision to walk away "was sparked by a philosophical difference in how the search was handled in its later stages," according to USA Today's Sam Amick.

On the bright side -- I think? -- the union looks like it's finally close to wrapping this thing up. The executive committee sent players a memo stating that three finalists have been selected and there will be a vote on Monday, as first reported by USA Today.
