Cherry impressed with the Cleveland Cavaliers' summer league team this month in Las Vegas, averaging 12.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in five games while shooting 52 percent from the field. The Raptors front office was in attendance when Cherry dropped 21 points against the Houston Rockets, going head to head with fellow summer league standout Isaiah Canaan.
After going undrafted out of Montana in 2013, Cherry eventually went to the D-League in February. In 18 games for the Canton Charge, he averaged 11.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
This is the second straight off-season in which Toronto has added a reserve point guard after a strong summer league. Last year, the Raptors signed Dwight Buycks, who will play for Valencia in Spain next season after being recently waived. Cherry will have to fight for limited minutes in Toronto, as the team re-signed Kyle Lowry and Greivis Vasquez and acquired Lou Williams in a trade.
