Report: Kings interested in Russian guard Dmitry Kulagin

By James Herbert | NBA writer

The Sacramento Kings are interested in signing Dmitry Kulagin, according to Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears, and the Russian guard is "seriously considering" making the jump to the NBA.

A creative, 6-foot-6 playmaker, Kulagin has been fun to watch in international competition over the past few years. His stock has fallen drastically in NBA circles, though, and he went undrafted in June.

If the Kings sign the The 22-year-old as a free agent, they will need to reach a buyout agreement. Kulagin spent last season with BC Triumph Lyubertsy, and is still under contract with the club, which has since been renamed B.C. Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Kulagin averaged 7.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists last year, shooting 42 percent from the field and 30 percent from the 3-point line. Sacramento definitely needs more playmakers, but it's unclear how much he would be able to contribute right away.
