Kapono, Bosh star as Raptors stay hot

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jason Kapono was feeling it, especially late in the game.

The Toronto forward made 6 of 7 3-pointers in the second half and finished with a career-high 29 points, helping the Raptors beat the Indiana Pacers 104-93 Friday night for their fourth straight win.

Kapono scored 25 points in the second half, including 17 in the fourth quarter.

"It feels great," he said. "You want to take about 40 shots. I kept yelling 'Hey, pass me the ball.' They say, 'You're standing 45 feet outside of the 3-point arc.' I'm saying 'Hey, pass me the ball, still.' It's just one of those rare times when you feel like every shot you take is a good shot."

Chris Bosh had 22 points and 16 rebounds, and Jose Calderon had a career-high 16 assists and 18 points for the Raptors (14-10), who overcame a 17-point third-quarter deficit.

Mike Dunleavy scored 23 points and Jamaal Tinsley added 19 points and 10 assists for the Pacers (11-12).

The Raptors took their first lead of the game, 81-80, on Kapono's 3-pointer with 9 minutes left.

The teams swapped the lead until Calderon made a 3-pointer and Kapono made another 30 seconds later to give the Raptors a 94-90 edge with 3 minutes to go.

After Kris Humphries made two free throws, Kapono made another 3-pointer with 1:41 left and the shot clock winding down to make it 99-90.

"He really shot the ball well tonight. As a matter of fact, he's been shooting the ball well all week," Bosh said. "We just decided we'd hit the boards, and when defensively they collapsed in the paint, it really opened up our outside game."

Calderon said the Pacers focused on stopping Bosh and Humphries on the pick-and-roll and left Kapono open. Humphries tied a season high with 17 points.

"Hump and CB were playing really good," Calderon said. "They got scared of that, so they were playing the roll guys. They were helping too much and I was finding Kapono. I was trying to find him every time."

The Pacers led 25-21 at the end of the first quarter, then went 5-for-8 from 3-point range in the second quarter to take a 52-41 halftime lead. Bosh made 6 of 8 shots for Toronto in the first half, but the rest of the team made 12 of 33.

Indiana took a 66-49 lead in the third quarter before the Raptors went on an 11-0 run that included six points and two assists by Calderon to cut the edge to 66-60.

Indiana's Kareem Rush hit a 3-pointer, and Dunleavy followed with a basket to stretch the lead to 71-60. The Pacers led 75-69 at the end of the third quarter.

The Pacers shot 7-for-21 from the field in the fourth quarter but their up-tempo style helped them get back in the game.

"We know they're going to let us back in the game because they're going to keep playing the same way," he said. "We know they're going to miss some shots for sure. We know we're going to have our opportunity, and we just took it."

Indiana forward Jermaine O'Neal took some of the blame for the second-half defensive collapse. He was in foul trouble and played just 10 minutes after halftime. He finished with 13 points and one rebound.

"We've just got to really buckle down on D," O'Neal said. "It didn't help that I picked up two really quick fouls in the third. I think that took some of the steam away. A team like Toronto that thrives on making 3s and getting into the open court can really take advantage of it."

The Pacers were outscored 35-18 in the fourth quarter.

"At halftime, we just talked about how we were going to keep on fighting," Bosh said. "We just tried to keep raising our energy level."
