2014 NBA Draft: Thunder get a B for picking Mitch McGary at No. 21
With the 21st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected Mitch McGary out of Michigan.
The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Michigan forward Mitch McGary with the No. 21 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
McGary was supposed to be a lottery pick had he declared for the 2013 draft and stayed in it. He's a big, mobile power forward/center who can be killer in the pick-and-roll and should be a solid rebounder at the NBA level. He adds to a deep frontcourt for the Thunder which boasts Serge Ibaka, Steven Adams, Nick Collison, and Kendrick Perkins.
Matt Moore of CBSSports.com thinks this is a solid pick for OKC.
Thunder: Mitch McGary: B: They can develop him slowly maybe with a stint in Tulsa. Good talent at this spot. Can pair with Steven Adams.— Matt Moore CBS (@MattMooreCBS) June 27, 2014
The 6-10, 255-pound McGary averaged 9.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 2013-14, but missed the season's final 29 games with a back injury. McGary's decision to turn pro after the season was influenced in part by an expected one-year suspension for 2014-15, after he tested positive for marijuana.
McGary averaged 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds during his freshman season, when he was a key member of a Wolverines squad that lost to Louisville in the 2013 national championship.
