Cavs' Tyler Zeller out after emergency appendectomy Friday

Cavaliers forward Tyler Zeller missed the team's Friday game against the Pistons because of a strained hip.

But the team announced Saturday Zeller had an emergency appendectomy after he was diagnosed with an acute appendicitis.

He will undergo additional recovery and re-evaluation and will be given a timetable then. Typical recovery time for an appendectomy is roughly a month, but everyone is different.

Zeller, 23, was set to see some time in the Cavs frontcourt rotation of Andrew Bynum, Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson, especially with the uncertainty of Bynum and Varejao's health.

Zeller averaged 7.9 points and 5.7 rebounds in 79 games as a rookie last season.
