Celtics, Gordon Hayward share mutual interest
Boston wants to re-team Brad Stevens with his old star forward at Butler.
Ken Berger of CBSSports.com confirms a report from the Boston Herald that the Celtics and Utah Jazz restricted free agent Gordon Hayward share a mutual interest. Hayward played for Celtics coach Brad Stevens at Butler University.
With @BaxterHolmes reporting Celtics have reached out to Gordon Hayward, interest is mutual. Brad Stevens was the RFA's coach at Butler.— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) July 1, 2014
Hayward averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists last season for the Jazz, shooting just 41 percent from the field.
He would be a good fit on Boston, who has been aggressive in pursuing an upgrade over Jeff Green at small forward. He'd fit more with how Brad Stevens runs his offense and would give them another playmaker and rebounding forward. But the Jazz are said to be committed to re-signing the versatile forward. We'll see if the Celtics can figure a way to get him loose of the Utah coil.
