Clippers' Matt Barnes fined $25,000 for failing to leave the court Sunday
Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes has been fined $25,000 for failing to leave the court Sunday following an ejection.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes was ejected from Sunday's win over the Minnesota Timberwolves for a flagrant-2 foul that was upgraded from a flagrant-1 after official review. Because of the unexpected upgrade of the foul which resulted in an immediate ejection, Barnes argued that his foul against Kevin Love didn't warrant an automatic ejection.
His failure to leave the court in a timely manner added to the punishment of the ejection when the league fined him $25,000 today. From the NBA:
LAC's Matt Barnes has been fined $25,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely manner upon his ejection (vs. Timberwolves on Dec. 22).
While the foul was definitely a hard foul that should have resulted in a flagrant-1, the ejection of Barnes on the play seemed to be much more reputation-based than rooted in the letter of the law. Even with the call not being universally accepted as correct, Barnes still has to leave the court and can't carry on like that without expecting to pay the league a fine.
