Dwight Howard fined $25,000 for tossing ball at heckler in Dallas
Dwight Howard tossed the ball toward a heckler in Dallas during the Rockets' loss to the Mavericks on Wednesday. He's been fined $25,000.
Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard was having a pretty good game despite not having a lot of success in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night's 123-120 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. He was just 1-of-5 from the field in the fourth, but did manage 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Before one of his trips to the line, he was fouled inside and immediately heckled by a fan just beyond the baseline.
Howard gathered the loose ball and flipped it toward the fan, who promptly batted it back onto the court. Perhaps, he was trying out for a defensive role on the Rockets? The league has dropped a $25,000 fine on Howard for tossing the ball into the stands. From the NBA's PR Twitter account:
HOU's Dwight Howard fined $25,000 for throwing ball into stands during Houston's 123-120 loss to Dallas on Nov. 20.
Tossing the ball into the stands is a big no-no and comes with an automatic technical foul and typically a fine later. Not only did the heckler get the better of Howard in that moment, but he got to celebrate a victory for his team and has now cost Howard a nice chunk of change.
