Eye on Basketball Podcast: Which teams do you need to beat?
Zach Harper and Matt Moore discuss the rivalries and must-win games for contenders like the Knicks, Bulls, Thunder, and Clippers, along with late starting games.
With the season right around the corner, Matt Moore joins me to go over the top rivalries in the NBA. Rivalries are a little different in today's NBA than in years past because it's now become a lot of must-win games and a measurement of status in the NBA if you beat a "rival," as opposed to teams you flat-out hate like the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s. It's weird that the Celtics and Lakers aren't even in our discussion of these must-win games for contenders because they're no longer contenders.
Which teams would you pick for the Oklahoma City Thunder needing to defeat during the regular season? Do they need to beat the San Antonio Spurs? What about showing the Los Angeles Clippers who is boss in the Western Conference? Do they still need to prove themselves against the Miami Heat? Would the Memphis Grizzlies only pick the Clippers as their must-win matchups? And do the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks still consider each other to be must-win games?
We discuss all of that, plus anniversary movies, games starting late for China, and a possible Andrew Bogut extension.
