According to Sam Amick of USA Today, Roy was shot in the leg while outside his grandmother's house.

Former NBA All-Star Brandon Roy was shot in the leg outside his grandmother's house near Los Angeles, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports' Sam Amick.

Someone opened fire randomly outside his grandmother's house, and he was shielding some of the kids who were there, the person said.

The Portland Trail Blazers have also released a statement about the incident:

"Like many others, we're just learning of the injury suffered by former Trail Blazers player Brandon Roy in a shooting over the weekend in California. According to those reports, Brandon was wounded as a bystander, but is expected to recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon and his family during this time."

Former Portland Trail Blazers standout Brandon Roy was reportedly injured in a shooting this weekend, where KING-TV in Seattle reports he was a bystander at an outdoor gathering.

Roy was treated at a Los Angeles area hospital and is recovering at his home in Washington.

Roy is currently coach at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. Last season he led his team to an undefeated season and was named the Naismith Coach of the Year.

Roy was a three-time All-Star with the Blazers after being taken sixth overall out of Washington in the 2006 NBA Draft. Injuries cut short what looked to be a promising playing career, though Roy has found success in his second career as a coach.
