Pelicans center Jason Smith is out indefinitely after an MRI revealed cartilage damage in his right knee, the team announced Saturday. The team expects to reveal more information about the extent of the injury

Smith has started 27 of his 31 games this season, but missed some time with a lingering shoulder injury. He is averaging 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 26.8 minutes per game.
