Joel Embiid's agent says he has stress fracture, will have foot surgery
This is a big blow for the big man, who was reportedly very likely to be selected No. 1 in the draft.
Joel Embiid has a stress fracture in his right foot, and the big man out of Kansas will undergo surgery on Friday, his agent, Arn Tellem, said in a statement:
Joel Embiid suffered a stress fracture to the navicular bone in his right foot. He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow. Joel will be unable to participate in any additional workouts, and will not attend the draft in New York. We will have no further comment until after the surgery.
The injury came to light in a physical conducted by Cleveland Cavaliers doctors in a recent visit, according to Yahoo Sports. News that he had an injury was first reported by ESPN.com and it figures to have a huge impact on next week's draft.
The Cavaliers, who own the No. 1 pick, now want to work out Dante Exum, according to Yahoo Sports, and are also considering Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker. There is no telling how far Embiid will slide.
