Lamar Odom pleads no contest in DUI case
Former Clipper accepts fine in misdemeanor plea deal with prosecutors.
As Lamar Odom continues to work out in the hopes of signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, he cleared up his outstanding legal issue stemming from a DUI arrest this summer by striking a plea deal. From the AP:
Former NBA player Lamar Odom pleaded no contest Monday to a drunken driving charge and accepted a sentence of three years' probation and three months of alcohol abuse treatment.
In a deal with prosecutors, Odom entered the plea to one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence and was also ordered to pay $1,814 in fines and penalties, Los Angeles city attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan said. Odom had faced a maximum sentence of six months in jail.
The status of his suspended driver's license will be determined at a separate hearing in front of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Odom had plead "not guilty" on October 9th after his arrest last August. Rumors of drug abuse have hounded him for much of the summer, but the former Laker and Clipper has not acknowledged receiving treatment. Much was made of Odom's refusal to submit to a blood test upon his arrest.
Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reported last week that Odom could be ready to return to the NBA in January.
