Climbing up another spot on the NBA's all-time scoring list, LeBron James continued his pursuit of Michael Jordan's legacy on Friday.
Scoring 27 points in the Cavaliers' 114-84 win over the Miami Heat, James surpassed NBA legend Elvin Hayes for ninth on the all-time scoring list. James passed Hayes after scoring a layup with less than seven minutes left in the game to get his 27,315th career point:
This was the second time this season that James has moved up the NBA's all-time scoring list. On Nov. 5, James passed Hakeem Olajuwon in a game against the 76ers to crack the top 1o.
Amazingly, James could keep climbing higher on the all-time scoring list this season. He needs to score just 94 more points to get to pass Moses Malone (27, 409 points) for eighth on the list. James could perhaps even get as high as seventh, needing 1,254 points to pass his former teammate Shaquille O'Neal (28,569 points).
LeBron will likely rest in more than a few games this season so he may not pass O'Neal until next season. However, James is averaging 24.1 points a game and with 61 games left in the Cavs' season, it should be totally doable for the superstar forward to get to seventh.
If James is able to get past O'Neal, next on his list will be Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, who will keep adding to his total this season once he returns from an Achilles injury. But while James will likely need the 2017-18 season to get past Nowitzki, the fact that he could climb up three spots on the all-time scoring list in one season is pretty amazing.
James is proving yet again, that his greatness is unparalleled.
