Offseason: Free Agency | Latest from Ken Berger | Rumors

The Shawn Marion sweepstakes are getting more interesting. The Los Angeles Clippers are targeting the free agent forward, according to Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears

If you're closely following what's left of free agency, you're no doubt aware already that the Cleveland Cavaliers hosted Marion a couple of weeks ago and the Indiana Pacers did the same last week. The Miami Heat, who were linked to Marion back when we expected LeBron James to return, are also still in the mix, according to Yahoo Sports.

The Clippers could very much use the services of the 36-year-old, and they're a natural fit for Marion. Indiana president Larry Bird said that it was apparent after speaking to Marion that he wanted to join a contender. The Clippers would give him a real chance to compete for a championship and play a key role. Los Angeles, for all its depth and star power, does not have a defender with his size and versatility. The Clips had a revolving door of backup power forwards last year, and Marion can play that position. You'd have to think he'd give the situation serious consideration.

The question is whether or not this would be a better fit than Cleveland, where the team has a similar need and the best player in the world on the roster. It might be nice to play in the weaker East for a change, but Marion might simply prefer to spend his time in Los Angeles. Neither team can offer him more than the veteran minimum.
