Report: Delonte West signs with Chinese team
Former Celtic, Cavalier, and Maverick headed overseas after guaranteed deal fails to materialize.
CSN Northwest reports that free agent Delonte West, who hasn't played in the NBA since 2012, is headed to China:
Free agent guard Delonte West has signed a one-year deal with Fujian Xunxing of China, a source informed CSNNW.com.
West, 30, will have the opportunity to latch onto an NBA team once the Chinese Basketball Association's season concludes in February.
West has been trying to get back in the league after off-court issues including a 2009 arrest involving weapons have painted him as a problem. He was with the Mavericks in training camp but was too much of a problem for them to hold on to. West is apaently looking for a guaranteed deal, something that's going to be hard to find considering his history.
But taking the money and spending a year in China, waiting for the latter part of the year when teams start looking for veterans to contribute (much like the Spurs did with Tracy McGrady last year) isn't the worst plan. The odds are heavily against West ever playing in the league again at this point, however.
West averaged 10 points and three assists for Dallas in 2011-2012.
