Report: Heat trying to acquire late-teen pick to draft Shabazz Napier

The Miami Heat are trying to move up in the draft to acquire 2014 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player Shabazz Napier, according to Chad Ford of ESPN. They have the No. 26 pick in the draft, and are trying to package it with point guard Norris Cole.

While it is far from certain whether or not Napier will be better than Cole as a pro, LeBron James is a fan:

If acquiring Napier means it's more likely the best player on the planet will stay in Miami, fine, but in a vacuum this would be a curious move. Heat president Pat Riley is reportedly high on the point guard, though:

Right after the NBA Finals, Riley flew out to work out Napier, a Heat source told After the workout, the Heat tried to convince the former Huskies star to stop his workouts so that he'd fall to the Heat with pick No. 26.

It looks unlikely that he'll fall that far now. The Chicago Bulls, who have the No. 16 and 19 picks, and the Boston Celtics, who have No. 17, are looking at trade offers and "could be enticed," according to ESPN.
