Report: Kevin Love trade unlikely until Wolves hire coach
Minnesota is reportedly discussing Kevin Love trades but will likely wait until a new coach is hired before finalizing anything.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are discussing prospective Kevin Love deals with other teams, but won't likely pull the trigger on any move until they have hired a head coach, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Once Wolves hire coach, they'll likely try to sell Love again on a vision and direction. For now, his stance hasn't changed: He wants out.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 4, 2014
If Love indeed has made up his mind, it's hard to imagine any new coach changing the outlook of the team so dramatically that he would suddenly want to stay. It's not as if the Timberwolves are about to hire Phil Jackson. Still, if they think they have a chance of doing what the Portland Trail Blazers did with LaMarcus Aldridge last season, it makes sense to do what they can to try to convince him that Minnesota is where he should be. The problem for the Wolves is that the longer they drag this out, the less leverage they will have.
Minnesota is said to be interested in candidates with previous head-coaching experience. Sam Mitchell, Vinny Del Negro, Lionel Hollins and Scott Skiles have all reportedly interviewed with the team.
