ESPN reports that the Spurs 'tried hard" to make a deal for then-Sixers-now-Pacers forward Evan Turner at the NBA deadline.

The Spurs were involved in a number of rumors at the deadline before taking their usual approach of standing pat. The Sixers wound up moving Turner for Danny Granger and a second-rounder, sparking controversy over not getting enough return. But if you've already decided to move him, and no other offers come through, what are you to do?

The Spurs' interest shows that there was indeed a market for Turner. But consider that dealing with the Spurs is most often like haggling with an experienced rug merchant. They know how to get what they want. Even if you are able to get a good product out of it, they'll put you through the ringer to get it. It's no surprise that the Sixers found the Pacers easier to deal with.

Still, it's fascinating to wonder what would have been sent to Philadelphia, and how the addition of Turner would have altered the Spurs season. Turner hasn't been great so far in Indiana, but he did shoot 4-4 from the field in a victory against Boston on Tuesday.
