Report: Spurs to sign Patty Mills
The Spurs were in need of a backup point guard since T.J. Ford unexpectedly announced his retirement last week. And they appear to have found him. According to Yahoo! Sports, Austailian point guard Patty Mills will be signed to fill that spot.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Austailian point guard Patty Mills will be signed to fill that spot.
Mills, 23, has just been cleared by the Chinese Basketball Association to return to the NBA. According to the report, the deal is expected to be finalized within 24 hours after the Blazers, who currently hold his rights, renounce him.
The Spurs appeared to be a potential destination for Derek Fisher who is expected to be bought out by the Rockets after the Lakers traded him at the deadline. San Antonio is obviously in need of a backup for Tony Parker, and Mills will fill the role better than having nobody there.
Mills played 74 games for the Trail Blazers from 2009-11, and was primarily a third point guard on the roster.
