Report: Suns will trade Luis Scola to the Pacers for players, pick
The Suns and Pacers are nearing a deal that would send power forward Luis Scola to Indiana.
The Pacers have added a few offseason pieces to address depth issues, but apparently they're not done.
Pacers will trade Miles Plumlee, Gerald Green and 2014 protected 1st round pick to Suns for Luis Scola, sources tell Y! Sports.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 27, 2013
The protection on the pick is believed to be lottery protected, according to Wojnarowski.
Scola is owed $4.8 million this season, though his contract is non-guaranteed. He'll be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The Pacers have made a couple of solid offseason moves like re-signing David West and adding Chris Copeland and C.J. Watson, but obviously feel they could use a little more. Scola would be a quality addition to their frontline, helping to fill the void left by power forward Tyler Hansbrough who signed with the Raptors.
Currently, the Pacers only have rookie Solomon Hill backing up West at power forward. They have Ian Mahinmi behind Roy Hibbert, but the idea with Scola would be to strengthen power forward and have a quality offensive bench option at that position.
Scola, 33, spent last season with the Suns after being amnestied by the Rockets. In 82 games he averaged 12.8 points and 6.6 rebounds in 26.6 minutes.
