Report: Wiggins, Parker, Embiid will not attend draft combine
Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Joel Embiid will all reportedly skip the draft combine in Chicago.
UPDATE: Adrian Wojnarowski is also reporting Kansas star and top draft prospect Andrew Wiggins has pulled out of the combine in Chicago. That means the top three prospects in this draft will not be participating in the combine festivities.
The news doesn't come as a huge surprise. If you're as high on boards as those two are, with virtually no chance of falling past No. 4, and little chance of falling past No. 3 by the consensus analysis, you really have nothing to gain. Both players' strengths and weaknesses already have been summarized and the combine is more a place to improve draft stock for mid-to-late first rounders and to get projected second-rounders in front of decision-makers.
Embiid, in particular, has no reason to participate; his back issues need to be evaluated by independent or team doctors and subjecting himself to anything that could result in even a little soreness could scare off potential suitors.
... This discussion makes it sound like a meat market, doesn't it?
Anyway, no Parker, no Embiid this week. The combine runs Wednesday through next Sunday (May 18) and we'll have coverage on Eye on Basketball.
