Report: Wolves like Thaddeus Young if Kevin Love is dealt
Minnesota is reportedly eyeing Sixers forward Thaddeus Young.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Wolves, while continuing to discuss trade proposals that would send Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers, have been exploring their options for acquiring Young from the Sixers, either through a separate transaction or as part of an expanded Love trade.
Whether Philadelphia proves willing to part with Young, though, remains to be seen.
Young has two years left on his contract, including a player option for the 2015-16 season, valued at a combined $19.3 million. Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie said in June that he anticipates Young starting next season in Philadelphia, but it's believed that the club is willing to move Young if the assets acquired in return are sufficiently attractive.
This isn't the first time Young's name has come up in connection with Love, and it certainly isn't the first time he's come up in trade rumors over the past year. The 26-year-old is coming off a strong season in which he averaged 17.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, though it was a miserable year for the rebuilding Sixers.
It's only logical for Philadelphia general manager Sam Hinkie to explore trading Young to a team looking to be competitive in the near term, and Minnesota apparently doesn't want to go into tank mode after dealing Love. You can question the Wolves' strategy here, but you can't really question them targeting Young as a means of executing it.
As for Love, Minnesota reportedly still sees the Cleveland Cavaliers as its best trading partner, with No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins as the centerpiece of the offer.
