Rockets coach Kevin McHale misses practice for personal reasons
Rockets coach may miss Thursday night game against Rockets due to unknown personal issue.
Rockets coach Kevin McHale missed practice Tuesday due to a "personal matter" and it's not known when he'll return.
Officials would not confirm what those reasons are. His return is still to be determined and it isn’t known if he will be in Portland with the team on Thursday night.
Assistant head coach Kelvin Sampson will be in charge in McHale’s absence.
“You know, Mc is kind of day to day right now,” Sampson said after practice. “Hopefully, he’ll be back tomorrow.”
“It’s kind of similar to an injured player, except it’s a little different because it’s your leader and your voice not being here,” Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin said. “Obviously, lots of prayers for him and showing him our love and hopefully he’ll be back soon.”
McHale missed several weeks last season after the tragic death of his daughter. Sampson filled in during that stretch as well. Hopefully, this absence is for less serious reasons than the sad events last season.
