Kawhi Leonard will not play in Game 4 of Spurs-Warriors due to the same ankle injury that he has been battling since Game 5 of Spurs-Rockets. Leonard was forced to miss Game 6 of that series due to injury and then was re-injured in Game 1 against the Warriors.

There was hope Leonard might be able to come back for Game 3 due to the extended break between Games 2 and 3, but Gregg Popovich told media he decided to sit Leonard since he wasn't ready yet. San Antonio put up a fight, but they fell in Game 3 putting them in an 0-3 deficit. Surprising nobody, Leonard will be out for Game 4 as well.

The severity of Leonard's injury has not been specified by the Spurs. The only thing they have said is that an MRI after the second injury revealed no structural damage. However, with an 0-3 deficit, it feels like San Antonio is making the smarter choice and picking Leonard's long-term health over a longshot chance at turning the series around.

The Leonard injury will be one of the big what-ifs of this year's playoffs. San Antonio led Golden State big during Game 1 before Leonard re-injured his ankle. It's possible that had he been healthy, the Spurs would have been the team that finally challenged Golden State. However, injuries across the board for San Antonio ruined any chance at that happening.
