Udonis Haslem, Greg Oden unlikely to play in Heat preseason opener
LeBron James indicates forward and center aren't ready to go after various knee surgeries.
The Miam Heat open their preseason schedule in advance of their attempt at a three-peat Monday vs. Atlanta. But they'll be short on some frontcourt depth when they face the Hawks. From the South Florida Sentinel:
LeBron indicates no Greg Oden, possibility of no Udonis Haslem (offseason knee procedure) in exhibition opener.— Ira Winderman (@IraHeatBeat) October 4, 2013
Missing Greg Oden is to be expected. Even after the Heat signed the former Trail Blazer, he's not expected to be back in game shape for a long time. He's on that "indefinite" timetable. Haslem had surgery on a torn meniscus this summer.
The Heat still have Chris Bosh, Rashard Lewis, and Chris Anderson, so they've got some depth, along with training camp pickups. The Heat have no expectations for Oden. But Haslem is a bigger question due to how important he is to their success. We'll see how long it takes Haslem to get back on the floor for the champs.
