VIDEO: Drake, Raptors' global ambassador, recruits Kevin Durant
Rapper Drake, who was named the Toronto Raptors' global ambassador in 2013, recruits Kevin Durant to play for the Raptors at a concert.
Rapper Drake is doing his part as a fan of the Toronto Raptors. When Kevin Durant is a free agent in 2016, he'll be the most sought-after free agent on the market since LeBron James in 2010. As an up-and-coming team in a big market in North America, the Raptors could be a very attractive place for a big star like Durant, although it's unclear if he'd actually consider signing with them or any team that isn't the Oklahoma City Thunder as of right now.
At the OVO Fest Monday night in Toronto, Drake had some words for Durant, who was a guest of Drake's. He said:
"Yo, before we leave, I just want to show one of my brothers something. You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen."
(Warning: In the video below, Drake uses an expletive around the 50-second mark at the end. May not be suitable for work or kids)
The Toronto crowd cheered for Durant. The question though is did Drake break any rules by doing this? His role as "global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors" probably isn't a paid position with the team, but is it enough of a "job" with the Raptors for this to be considered tampering? Organizations aren't allowed to talk about having players not on their roster playing for their team. If he's not paid by the organization, it's technically a legal recruitment of sorts, but it's safe to assume the NBA and probably the Thunder want something like this to not be a regular occurrence.
