VIDEO: Gregg Popovich's locker-room speech after winning NBA Finals
Pop's post-game speech was, frankly, heartwarming.
Gregg Popovich has spoken all season about how impressed he's been with his team's resilience. After getting their hearts broken on the game's biggest stage last season, the San Antonio Spurs showed up willing to put in the work required to get back there. It's been discussed to death, but it really is incredible that essentially the same group that lost Games 6 and 7 of the NBA Finals last year was able to return and dominate the Miami Heat like this.
That was the message of Popovich's post-game speech in the Spurs locker room, where -- after a playful jab at modest Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard -- he told his players how he felt.
"Kawhi thinks he did it all by himself," Popovich said to laughs. "We all know that we all had a piece of it. But I've never been more proud of a team, nor have I ever gotten as much satisfaction from a season in all the years I've been coaching. To see the fortitude you guys displayed, coming back from that horrific loss last year, and getting yourselves back in a position and doing what you did in the Finals, you're really to be honored for that and I just can't tell you how much it means."
