VIDEO: Rudy Gay works out with Hakeem Olajuwon
Rudy Gay is putting in some summer work, including learning the post from one of the game's greatest.
One of the biggest criticisms around Rudy Gay's game is that he settles too much. He's a 6-foot-9 jumpshooter that doesn't use his size or athleticism enough.
So he's doing something about it and seeking counsel from one of the game's greats, Hakeem Olajuwon.
Now, you might be wondering why Gay would work with Olajuwon since he's not a big man. But remember, both Kobe Bryant and LeBron James put in time with Olajuwon as well. It's not uncommon for a small forward or guard to hone some post moves. Because we've all seen what it's done for both Kobe and LeBron.
Last season, Gay took only 1.8 shots of his overall 16.7 per game from 3-9 feet. The bulk of his attempts were from 16-23 feet or from 3.
So obviously, he's trying to focus in a bit at trying to become a bit more efficient with his shot selection and to do so, he's got to learn the skills. And getting them from The Dream is a pretty good start.
