Warriors outlast Hawks, become fastest to 50 wins in NBA history
With a win against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, the Golden State Warriors become the fastest team to 50 wins in the history of the NBA.
The Golden State Warriors keep making history.
The Warriors started the season on a historic win streak and with a 102-92 victory against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, Golden State made history again by becoming the fastest team to win 50 games in NBA history.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 36 points (14-of-22 from the field, 5-of-11 from 3-point range) and Klay Thompson chipped in 27 points. For the majority of the game, the Warriors were blowing out the Hawks and opened up a 23-point lead in the third. But Atlanta went on a 28-6 run and eventually took a one-point lead in the fourth.
Yet the Warriors simply took care of business to pull away down the stretch.
Interestingly enough, the previous record was held by the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls, who needed one more game than the Warriors to win their 50th. The Warriors are chasing after that Bulls team as they are aiming to win 73 games this season. Golden State is currently 50-5 and seem quite capable of surpassing the '95-96 Bulls record of 72 wins.
