Overview

A crowd-pleaser, big-play artist, Dudley was a consistent scoring threat for the Eagles throughout his career. He is one of only five players to score over 2,000 points (2,071) at Boston College and ranked seventh on the Schoolall-time record list with 936 rebounds.

The San Diego native is an ironman, logging the most minutes of any Atlantic Coast Conference player in each of his final two seasons. He led all ACC players in minutes played, averaging 38.88 minutes per league game in 2006-07. He also ranked among the league leaders in: field-goal percentage (second), defensive rebounding (second), rebounding (third), scoring (fifth) and offensive rebounding (sixth).

At Horizon High School, Dudley earned All-State honors as a senior. He captured 2002-03 San Diego Section Player of the Year honors from San Diego Union-Tribune and was named the 2002-03 State Division IV Player of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports magazine. He led the Panthers to back-to-back state Division IV titles (2002 and 2003). As a senior, he averaged 23.2 points and 14 rebounds per game. He scored 16 points and 14 rebounds against Hercules in the 2003 title game in Sacramento's Arco Arena.

Dudley made an immediate impact once he joined the Boston College program in 2003-04. He started all 34 games, averaging 11.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game, as he ranked second on the team in each category. He played a team-high 1,156 minutes, the highest total by a BC freshman since minutes were recorded in 1980-81. He ranked among Big East leaders (conference games only) in six categories: rebounding (17th, 6.4), assists (tied-10th, 3.56), free-throw percentage (11th, .768), steals (tied-ninth, 1.62), assist- turnover ratio (10th, 1.73) and offensive rebounds (tied-11th, 2.56).

Dudley led or tied for the team lead in scoring eight times, in rebounding 12 times, in assists six times and in steals seven times. He was named to the All-Big East Rookie Team, adding Freshman All-American third-team honors from College Basketball News. He was also honored as the New England Division I Rookie of the Year (as selected by the New England Basketball Coaches Association).

He grabbed 101 offensive rebounds, the highest single-season total by a BC player since Bill Curley had 110 offensive rebounds in 1993-94. Dudley scored in double figures in 22 games, grabbed double-digit rebounds in five games and recorded three double-doubles. He also shot 72.3 percent from the foul line and made a team-high 125 free throws on 173 attempts.

As a sophomore, Dudley earned Big East All-Conference first-team honors, shared the league's Most Improved Player award with Connecticut's Marcus Williams and gained Division I All-District One honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United States Basketball Writers Association. He also captured All-Northeast Region honors from Basketball Times and received "All-East" second-team honors from Eastern Basketball.

Dudley earned National Player of the Week honors from The Sporting News (Jan. 23; was named Big East Player of the Week on Jan. 17; shared the same honor -- with Syracuse's Hakim Warrick -- the following week), and started all 30 games he played. He averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game, playing a team-high 1,079 minutes, an average of 36 minutes per game.

Dudley ranked among Big East leaders (conference games only) in nine categories: rebounding (third, 8.0), scoring (fourth, 17.9), steals (fifth, 1.88), field-goal percentage (eighth, .475), assist-turnover ratio (eighth, 1.81), free-throw percentage (10th, .760), assists (tied-14th, 3.06), offensive rebounding (second, 3.25) and defensive rebounding (fifth, 4.75). He scored in double figures in 26 games, including nine games with 20 or more points and one game with more than 30 points and grabbed double-digit rebounds in eight games.

He recorded seven double-doubles, registered three consecutive double-doubles in February (at Seton Hall, at Notre Dame and against Rutgers). Dudley led or tied for the team lead in scoring 14 times, in rebounding 14 times, in steals 11 times and in assists five times. He shot 75.4 percent from the foul line, as he made a team-high 135 free throws on 179 attempts.

In 2005-06, Dudley earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference second-team honors. He gained Division I All-District honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches and earned All-Tournament honors at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, as he averaged 17.7 points and six rebounds per game in the team's three contests. He ranked among ACC leaders (conference games only) in six categories: rebounding (tied-11th, 6.6), scoring (12th, 16.5), field-goal percentage (10th, .475), assist-turnover ratio (fourth, 1.82), offensive rebounding (fourth, 3.13) and minutes played (first, 38.12).

Dudley scored in double figures in 33 games, including 12 games with 20 or more points and grabbed double-digit rebounds in four games. He also recorded four point-rebound double-doubles. He led or tied for the team lead in scoring 14 times, in rebounding 11 times, in steals 12 times and in assists four times and shot 71 percent from the foul line; made a team-high 171 free throws on a team-high 241 attempts. Starting all 36 games, Dudley averaged 16.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He played 1,340 minutes, an average of 37.22 minutes per game.

Dudley garnered All-American and All-ACC honors as a senior. He started all 30 games and averaged 19 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, including 19.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in league action. He led all ACC players in minutes played, averaging 38.4 minutes per league game. He also ranked among league leaders in: field-goal percentage (second), defensive rebounding (second), rebounding (third), scoring (fifth) and offensive rebounding (sixth). He scored 20 or more points nine times (BC has an 8-1 record in those games), had 11 games with eight or more rebounds, eight games with three or more assists and registered six double-doubles.

Starting all 130 games in which he played, Dudley logged 4,727 minutes of action, an average of 36.4 minutes per game. He averaged 15.9 points per game, as his total of 2,071 points rank fifth in Schoolhistory. He shot .504 from the floor (689 of 1,368) and .731 from the free-throw line (573 of 784). He ranks seventh in BC annals with 936 rebounds, including 371 offensive boards, averaging 7.2 per game. Dudley successfully executed 395 assists, as he registered 241 steals and blocked 37 shots. He turned the ball over 268 times and was called for 248 fouls.

Positives: A bit undersized for the forward position, but is difficult to defend, as he has very good aggressiveness, vision, long arms and energy...Has the strength to bang the boards with the bigger men and has developed a lethal mid-range shot to draw the defender out of the paint to cover him along the perimeter...Best with his power moves from the low post and looks comfortable playing with his back to the basket...Good passer with the vision to locate the open man...Gets physical under the basket in attempts to get the putbacks...Can find open spots on the court to get off an unimpeded shot...Will face up with aggression when he gets to the ball under the rim...Equally impressive either using or setting up screens...Usually covered by smaller opponents and takes advantage of this mismatch to score inside the paint...Not really a perimeter shooter, but does show a nice spot-up jumper...Has the upper-body strength to power his way for points playing in the low post...Fires crisp passes to the open man through double-team action...Because of a lack of speed, he is best operating in a half-court system, as he shows the ability to spin off his man and create contact in drives to the hoop...Executes fakes and knows how to slip under the defender when the man goes to the air...Sets his feet well coming off screens and knows where to spot the seam to get past the opponent when the perimeter is too crowded to get off a clean shot...Even when giving up considerable bulk to the centers, he works hard to box them out and go for the rebound...Finishes well and has the strength to absorb contact...Good hustler who shows urgency getting to loose balls...When facing the basket, he keeps the defender honest with his ball distribution and ability to shoot with either hand.

Negatives: Utilized mostly at power forward, but his size will force him to shift to small forward at the NBA level...Has good mid-range shooting ability, but lacks the skills to be an effective 3-point shooter...Marginal defensive player, showing stiff hips which limits his ability to move to the ball laterally...Has decent speed for a power forward, but lacks the burst to stay with small forwards or guards in the open court...Marginal defender who also struggles to create shots off the dribble...Lacks the loose hips needed to stay in front of his man defending on the perimeter...Good hustler, but has limitations as a defender and will need to improve his overall quickness in order to play small forward at the next level...Gets most of his turnovers on the dribble, as he is marginal when putting the ball on the floor...Must be quicker with his initial step, as he lacks the explosiveness to gain separation...Has some long-range shooting skills, but is better served driving to the basket rather than tossing them in from the perimeter.

Compares To: RYAN GOMES, Boston. Dudley is a high-energy type that will be a valuable sixth man at the next level. He is best coming off the bench, where he can bring a fresh shooting presence in spurts. He is too slow to cover shooting guards or small forwards and even though he is fearless, he lacks the bulk to take on centers and power forwards underneath. He is more comfortable with his offensive game under the basket, lacking consistency with his shot from the perimeter. His defense will never be NBA-caliber, but he is effective setting up and working off screens, showing good hands and vision as a passer.
