Sportsline's Analysis
While he may have more of an immediate impact than many
prospects ranked ahead of him, questions surrounding Wade's status as a
"tweener" might knock him to the lower end of the lottery. Some teams are exploring his potential as a point guard, but he's probably better suited playing off the ball. Chicago likes what they see from him and could make him the seventh pick. If the Bulls pass, Milwaukee could keep the Marquette product home with the No. 8 pick. (Tony Mejia)
Scouting Report
DOB: Jan. 17, 1982. An early entry candidate, Wade was Conference USA Player of the Year and a first-team All-American while helping lead the Golden Eagles to the Final Four for the first time since 1977. Averaged 21.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 2.2 steals, 1.3 blocks and shot 50.1 percent from the field. A very strong player physically, Wade also had arguably the quickest first step in college basketball and is an outstanding athlete. Significantly raised his status by wowing scouts with a triple-double against top seed Kentucky in the Midwest Regional final, totaling 29 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists; the performance marked just the third triple-double in NCAA tournament history. An above-average defender who knows how to read the passing lanes and was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Year. Liabilities may be his height, which is believed to be closer to 6-foot-3, and his outside shot, which was a bit inconsistent. Was a partial qualifier and sat out his freshman season. Has a wife and 1-year-old son. (AP)
