He plays what scouts call "American-style" game,
complete with fearless drives to the hole and high-flying finishes. A
terrific athlete, one of Pietrus' strengths is his defense, an anomaly for European prospects. Chicago is reportedly very interested, while Memphis is another of his biggest fans. The Grizzlies would almost certainly take him if he falls to them at the end of the lottery. (Tony Mejia)
Scouting Report
DOB: Feb. 7, 1982. Explosive leaper with exceptional athleticism, averaged 12.2 points in 23 French League games. Good finisher on the fast break. Rebounds well for a guard and is not afraid to aggressively battle under the boards with larger players. Long arms and leaping ability help him disrupt passing lanes on defense. Aggressive defender who is sometimes prone to quick fouls. Has good strength for his size. Needs to work on his outside shooting and ball-handling. Has 3-point range, but lacks consistency on his outside shot. Still needs to learn the nuances of the game. Not a heady player. Shot selection is questionable at times. Averaged 9.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 26 minutes for Pau Orthez. Helped Pau Orthez win back-to-back French National Cups in 2002 and 2003. All-Star each of the past three seasons in France's top league. Teammates include his older brother Florent and fellow draft prospect Boris Diaw-Riffiod. Could be drafted as high as seventh and shouldn't slip lower than Orlando at No. 15. (AP)
