Sportsline's Analysis
Seattle expects Collison's superb fundamentals to help him step right in and fill the team's sizeable hole at power forward. He should get some quality seasoning scrimmaging with the U.S. Olympic qualifying team this summer. (Tony Mejia)
Scouting Report
DOB: Oct. 26, 1980. While Collison won't be able to use his size as an advantage in the post the way he did in college, he still projects to be a solid, physical contributor to an NBA team. Good leaping ability and strong fundamental footwork in the paint will make him tough to defend. The court sense and inside game he developed under coach Roy Williams should come in handy as they have for previous NBA big men from Lawrence: Raef LaFrentz, Scot Pollard and Greg Ostertag. Has deft touch with the ball, making him effective at passing out of the post or taking it outside himself for the occasional 15-foot jumper. His toughness will be tested early and often at the next level. Defending bigger, stronger and more athletic power forwards could present a problem. A consensus first-team All-American and the Big 12's player of the year in 2003, Collison led the Jayhawks to the national title game, averaging 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Along with teammate Kirk Hinrich, considered to be a shining example of college athletics - a classy, four-year student-athlete who steadily improved. Second in career points and blocks and third in career rebounds at Kansas. Finished high school career 101-1. Projects as a mid- to late first-round pick. (AP)
