Sportsline's Analysis
Anthony becomes the franchise in Denver, but for his new team's sake, hopefully won't be the first option next season. The Nuggets will actively persue point guard Gilbert Arenas and are looking to bring back last year's top scorer, Juwan Howard. If those pieces fall into place, the pressure on Anthony won't be as great, allowing him to develop at a smoother pace. (Tony Mejia)
Scouting Report
DOB: May 29, 1984. Showed maturity beyond his years by leading Syracuse to national title as a freshman. Averaged a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, setting school freshman records. Combination of a forward's height and a guard's game make him extremely versatile. Can post up smaller players or shoot over them from the perimeter; excellent dribbling ability and quickness makes it difficult for bigger players to come out and guard him. Solid fundamentals for such a young player. Often sets defenders up from the perimeter before taking a dribble with patience, footwork and ball fakes. Proved to be a proficient 3-point shooter, so must be guarded anywhere on the floor. Plays with a youthful enthusiasm that makes him a fan favorite. Big-time player as evidenced by career-high 33-point, 14-rebound performance in Final Four vs. Texas. Became third freshman to be named Final Four's Most Outstanding Player. Is the third Orangeman to declare early after Billy Owens (1991) and Pearl Washington (1986). Expected to be selected third. (AP)
