SportsLine's Analysis
He's worked hard to reverse an image ruined by trying to turn pro when he was absolutely not ready, both mentally and basketball-wise, out of high school. He's going to have to rebound with and defend NBA power forwards, which is a concern since in the eyes of decision makers, he's got toughness issues to overcome. -- Tony Mejia

Another rising collegian a la Antoine Wright, Villanueva matured into a star as a sophomore. He's not springy like Warrick, but he can score in a variety of ways, and he's active on the offensive glass. His defensive ability will be an issue. -- Gregg Doyel

Villanueva is a rare blend of talent -- he's got the size to dominate in the post, the ability to score from the perimeter and the ball handling skills to run the fast break. He'll develop into a 15.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG player within a couple years. -- Matt Lawrence

Scouting Report
DOB: Aug. 24, 1984.

Scouting report: This is the second time Villanueva has gone through the NBA evaluation process. Coming out of Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J., in 2003, Villanueva declared for the draft, but changed his mind after workouts in front of NBA scouts. Led the Huskies in scoring this season, averaging 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Scouts have praised his ball-handling, passing and shot-blocking skills, and have projected he will be a late first-round pick. Good court vision and perimeter game to go along with his post-up abilities. Very versatile. May not be big enough to pound with the power forwards in the NBA, and might not have the defensive ability to stay with smaller forwards in the league. While few question his skills and potential, the area of most concern is his focus. Has earned a reputation for inconsistent effort and fluctuating intensity. Some question his heart and attitude.
