New York Islanders' Jaroslav Halak Availability for Friday remains unclear
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jaroslav Halak (upper body) is doubtful to return before next week, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday.

Halak was quoted Thursday as saying, "Hopefully, I'll be back soon." That doesn't sound promising, as it looks like Halak owners will have to search for different goalie options ahead of Friday's contest against the visiting Blackhawks. Thomas Greiss is the presumed starter in the event that Halak cannot give it a go in that game. The New York Islanders play the 'Hawks again Saturday.

Might practice Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Halak (upper body) isn't expected to practice with the Islanders until Tuesday at the earliest, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.Halak has only played 40 minutes in goal this preseason, not what you want from your number one goaltender. The Islanders still state that they expect him to be ready for their season opener Friday against the Blackhawks but fantasy owners may want to play it safe here and take a wait and see approach.

Leaves Midway Through Practice
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Halak returned to practice Thursday, but left the ice midway through, Newsday reports.Halak suffered the upper-body injury last week, and apparently head coach Jack Capuano remains noncommittal on whether or not the presumed starting goaltender will be available for the beginning of the regular season. If not, Thomas Griess seems the likely candidate to receive starts in net until he's healthy.

Returned to practice Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
Halak (upper body) returned to practice Thursday, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple. The injury was always considered to be minor but still a return to practice will put fantasy owners at ease. Fantasy owners should keep in mind however that the Islanders open up the season with back to back games versus the Blackhawks and the plan is for each goaltender to start one game.
