Nick Young did not travel with the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of Friday night's game versus the Pelicans, but is expected to fly to New Orleans in time for tipoff, ESPN's Baxter Holmes reports.
Young's tumultuous end to this season has been well-publicized lately, and him not traveling with the Lakers further evidences his distant relationship with the team at the moment. That being said, Young is expected to be present for Friday night's game in New Orleans, even if it's unlikely he'll be asked to play.
According to coach Byron Scott, Nick Young will travel with the Los Angeles Lakers during their upcoming three-game road trip, Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News reports.
Young lost his spot in the Laker's rotation in early March, and hasn't played at all in the Laker's last 11 games. The team's younger players have taken over the backcourt, pushing Young farther down the bench. Scott recognized earlier that Young isn't mentally with the team due to his drama regarding D'Angelo Russell's secret recording of Young's confession to infidelity becoming public. Young isn't likely to play in this road trip due to this, as well as his declining statistics. Young is averaging 7.3 PPG, on 32.5 percent from behind the arc, and 33.9 percent from the field.
Coach Byron Scott acknowledged Monday that
Young had already dropped out of the team's rotation in early March and hasn't played in the Lakers' last 11 games. He was expected to take a backseat to the team's younger players down the stretch as Scott looked to assess his backcourt options heading into 2015-16, and that plan only looks more ironclad after teammate D'Angelo Russell's secret video recording of Young discussing his infidelity became public last week. Young doesn't appear to be a part of the Lakers' future plans due to his off-court baggage and his declining numbers, as he finished the season with career-low marks in points per game (7.3), three-point percentage (32.5%) and field-goal percentage (33.9%).
Young had been dealing with an illness for the last few days, but he'll be back to availability Wednesday night. That doesn't mean he'll see the floor, though, as he had been out of the rotation most of the month prior to suffering the illness. Young hasn't played since logging 23 minutes against the Magic on March 8.
Nick Young (illness) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Heat, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Young missed Monday's game against the Jazz with an illness and is still dealing with some side effects. He's been listed as questionable heading into the Los Angeles Lakers ' matchup with the Heat, but we should see his status updated again following Wednesday morning's shootaround. Considering it's an illness, it's not expected to sideline Young for long, so even if he does end up sitting out Wednesday, he's expected to be back in short order.
