Augustin suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's game against the Warriors and will not return, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Augustin appeared to step on the foot of one of his teammates and then rolled his ankle. A subsequent X-ray on the ankle came back negative and he's avoided a fracture, which likely means he's dealing with some sort of sprain. Augustin will likely have additional tests performed after the game, which should give us a better indication if he'll be available for Tuesday's matchup against the Bulls. Augustin finished Sunday's outing with zero points, one rebound and one assist over five minutes.
Augustin recorded 19 points (5-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), two assists, one rebound and one steal across 29 minutes during a 100-93 loss to the Rockets on Friday.
Augustin went for a team-high 19 points off the bench. It was his second straight game in a reserve point guard role as the team has chosen to start Elfrid Payton, who has consistently outplayed Augustin of late. But that wasn't the case Friday, as Augustin outscored Payton and received more minutes as well. He also matched season highs with 19 points and four three-pointers made. It was a great and slightly unexpected game for Augustin, but Payton is still the more attractive option in the Orlando backcourt.
Augustin will come off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Hawks, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Augustin has started at point guard over Elfrid Payton in recent weeks, but has seen his role decrease substantially, logging 16 minutes or less over the last three games. He has also been clearly out-played by Payton, so the two will swap places, with Payton moving into the starting five and Augustin dropping into the second unit. Augustin's demotion likely means similar playing time to what he's see over the last few games, which severely restricts his fantasy potential moving forward.
Augustin was effective across 27 minutes during a 118-111 win over Brooklyn on Friday, as he tallied 17 points (6-14 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Backup point guard Elfrid Payton had outplayed Augustin lately, but the veteran responded with a strong game of his own Friday. Augustin had scored a total of six points over the two previous contests, so he needed this. With Payton playing well and threatening to cut into his minutes, Augustin will be looking to turn in another strong performance Sunday against the Raptors.
Augustin scored 15 points (4-7 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT) and added two assists and one rebound in 24 minutes during Wednesday's 117-87 loss to the Celtics.
Augustin has been on fire from long range since the calendar switched to December, hitting 53 percent of his three-point attempts. Although he's starting, he isn't seeing starter's minutes, and therefore his shots have been limited. Still, he's shooting the ball well, and he'll look to continue that Friday against the Hornets.
