Nogueira was the No. 16 pick by the Hawks a year ago, but sat out his rookie season while dealing with knee issues. He is expected to fight for a reserve role off the bench for the Raptors.
After spending 10 weeks in the United States receiving treatment for severe tendinitis in his knees,
The team's first-round draft pick recently suspended his contract with Asefa Estudiantes of the Spanish League in Europe. He will split time in Atlanta and Los Angeles for medical treatment.
"We are very encouraged by what we've seen from Lucas this summer," general manager Danny Ferry told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution early in August. "Going back to Estudiantes will allow him to continue develop while also playing meaningful minutes against very good competition. We will closely monitor his progress as he works towards his goals as a basketball player."
Nogueira, 20, appeared in five games at the Las Vegas summer league, averaging 6.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He has three seasons of experience under his belt playing professionally in Spain.
