After being released by the Mavericks in February, Jenkins was claimed by the Suns and was with the team throughout the offseason and into training camp. His contract for the upcoming season was not guaranteed and his chances of making the final roster appeared slim, but after the Suns opted to surprisingly release Archie Goodwin earlier Monday, Jenkins roster spot, as well as his contract, are now slated to become guaranteed. He's expected to operate in a depth role in the backcourt during the 2016-17 campaign, but remains a bit buried and likely will struggle to see fantasy worthy minutes in his time off the bench.
Jenkins (abdomen) participated in Monday's scrimmage, Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Jenkins sat out the Suns' last two preseason games while nursing an abdomen injury, but is now back to full strength. He should be available for Friday's preseason finale versus the Lakers and will need to have a strong showing, as it will be his last chance to prove he deserves a spot on the final regular season roster.
Jenkins (abdomen) has been ruled out for Friday's preseason game against the Mavericks, Paul Coro of AZCentral.com reports.
Missing yet another game is not good for Jenkins and his chances of securing a roster spot before the start of the regular season. With an entire week before the Suns play their next preseason game, Jenkins should have plenty of time to nurse the abdominal strain, but in competing with rookie Derrick Jones Jr. for the final roster spot and playing on a non-guaranteed contract, Jenkins will want to get back on the court as soon as possible.
Jenkins has been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Jazz with an abdominal strain, Paul Coro of AZCentral.com reports.
When exactly the shooting suffered from the ab strain is currently unknown, but he should be considered day-to-day at this point. Jenkins is buried on a Suns team that has good depth in their backcourt, so barring any major injuries, his impact this season should be fairly minimal.
John Jenkins tallied 11 points (4-10 FG, 3-3 3Pt), eight rebounds and two assists over 29 minutes in Friday's 116-94 loss to the Kings.
Getting the starting nod in place of Brandon Knight (illness), Jenkins acquitted himself well overall. He couldn't do much on the ball distribution end, but did assert himself on the glass with eight rebounds. Acquired from the Mavericks on Feb. 25, Jenkins now has three double-digit scoring outings in a Phoenix Suns uniform, although Friday marked his first start. He could be in line for a second straight night of run with the first unit if Knight is forced to miss Saturday's tilt versus the Celtics.
