Jazz's Joe Johnson: Role still undefined
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Jazz coach Quin Snyder said Monday that he's yet to decide whether Johnson will start or come off the bench, Jody Genessy of the Deseret News reports.

Johnson joined the Jazz on a two-year deal this offseason, adding even more depth to what was already one of the deepest rosters in the league. Utah is particularly stacekd on the wing, where Johnson will compete with Alec Burks, Rodney Hood, Joe Ingles, and Gorodn Hayward for minutes. Hayward is a virtual lock to start at small forward, meaning Snyder will have to choose between Johnson, Burks and Hood at shooting guard. While Johnson holds a major edge in terms of experience, Hood is coming off of a breakout 2015-16 campaign, and Burks was off to a strong start before an ankle injury forced him to miss 51 games. Snyder will likely try out multiple lineups through the first few weeks of the season, so it's entirely possible that all three of Johnson, Burks and Hood will have opportunities to earn the starting spot. Regardless of whether he starts or not, though, Johnson's role, minutes-wise, won't be drastically affected. For what it's worth, Johnson addressed the situation Monday and sounded indifferent with regards to his role. "I didn't come here to try to be a star or starter," Johnson said.

Jazz's Joe Johnson: Signs two-year deal with Jazz
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Johnson agreed to a two-year, $22 million deal with the Jazz on Friday, NBA.com's David Aldridge reports.

A somewhat forgotten man during this summer's free agent spending spree, Johnson will fit nicely with the Jazz as a wing capable of guarding multiple positions and bringing the ball up occasionally on offense. He hasn't averaged less than 11 points per game since the 2002-03 season, and he has been a fairly efficient three-point shooter in recent seasons. That said, with George Hill, Rodney Hood and Gordon Hayward in the fold, Johnson could see his least prevalent role in a long time with next year's Jazz squad, possibly serving as the team's sixth man.

Heat's Joe Johnson: Pours in 17 points in Game 2 loss
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Johnson scored 17 points (8-22 FG, 1-1 FT) and added five rebounds and four assists over 41 minutes in Thursday's 96-92 overtime loss to the Raptors in Game 2 of the series.

Johnson continued a shooting cold streak that began in Game 7 against the Hornets in the first round. He shot well under 40 percent for the third straight game, and his three misses early in overtime were part of the reason that the Heat couldn't get any momentum going in the extra period. On the positive side, the struggles haven't affected the 34-year-old's aggressiveness on offense, as he's taken 41 shot attempts over the last two games. Johnson will attempt to get back on track in Game 3 on Saturday at American Airlines Arena, where he's averaged 51.4 percent shooting over 12 games this season as both a Brooklyn Net and a member of the Heat.

Heat's Joe Johnson: Scores 16 points in Game 1 win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Joe Johnson compiled 16 points (7-19 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals across 42 minutes in Tuesday's 102-96 win over the Raptors in Game 1 of the series.

Johnson used the extra period to hoist his most shots of the postseason, though he failed to hit a three-pointer for the first time in the playoffs. Still, he was a serviceable supporting scorer for the Miami Heat in the road victory, and has now tallied double-digit points in four of the last five games.

Heat's Joe Johnson: Leading scorer in Game 4 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Joe Johnson led Miami with 16 points (6-12 FG, 4-5 3Pt) to go along with seven rebounds, two assists and a block in 35 minutes during Monday's Game 4 loss to Charlotte.

The 34-year-old was hot from downtown Monday, draining more three-pointers than he had int he first three games combined en route to his best scoring output of the series. Johnson also set a high mark in rebounding, and he appears to be elevating his game as the series moves into crunch time.
