It was a fortunate bounce that landed right on Pominville's stick, but we're sure he isn't complaining. The third-line winger has been piling on the assists during the team's recent tear, but this is his first goal since late-November. Pominville hasn't been a great fantasy play this year with just 18 points in 42 games, but the
Pominville has 10 assists and 15 points in 38 games, including two points in his last four games. He's on pace for a career low in points, so hopefully the last four games are a sign of improvement for the second half of the season.
Pominville collected two assists during Tuesday's win over Florida.
It's been a swift fall from fantasy relevance for Pominville, as he has just 49 points -- 16 goals -- through his past 103 games over the past two years. There aren't many fantasy settings where the 33-year-old veteran moves the needle enough to warrant a roster spot, and he's still generally overvalued in seasonal leagues and overpriced in daily contests based on his past success.
Pominville scored the game's first two goals on a season-high-tying six shots and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Vancouver.
The declining winger had just two lonely helpers in his prior nine games, but he was opportunistic in this one, smacking a rebound home for his first goal and then giving the Wild a 2-0 lead (which they failed to hold) by blasting a slap shot through Ryan Miller. A 30-goal scorer as recently as 2013-14, the veteran has not aged well, as he saw his production fall sharply last year, and it hasn't ticked back up this season. However, Pominville -- who turns 34 on Wednesday -- got his birthday celebration started early in this one. He's a third-liner at this point in his career, so value him accordingly.
Pominville secured Thursday's 4-2 win over the Penguins with an empty-net goal.
Pominville has snagged three goals in the first 12 games of the year, well ahead of his 2015-16 pace which saw him tally 11 markers in 75 contests. Although he has yet to score on the man advantage, the winger has garnered a pair of power-play assists while playing on the Wild's second unit. Fantasy owners should note, the 33-year-old could see a drop in ice time once Zach Parise (foot) and Zac Dalpe (knee) are cleared to return to action.
